DIY Tufted Moss Ring Pillow

What You’ll Need: A 5″ x 5″ X 2″ piece of Styrofoam 2 feet ribbon (2″ wide) 3 yards of ribbon (1/4″ wide) A 6″ x 6″ scrap of fabric A handful of sphagnum moss Straight pins Round-headed corsage pins. A pair of scissors.

1. Center your fabric face up on the Styrofoam square Fold the fabric
edges over sides of the Styrofoam and secure with straight pins. Wrap
the corners neatly and pin. (see figure 1)

2. Turn your Styrofoam over so the fabric side is down. Take your
sphagnum moss and stretch it out across the top of the Styrofoam. Be sure
that the moss completely covers the surface. (see figure 2)

3. Cut a length of the skinnier ribbon and run it diagonally across the
mossed surface. Attach both ends of the ribbons on the sides of the
Styrofoam using straight pins. Repeat this process to create a diagonal
grid of ribbon on the top of the pillow.

4. Take your corsage pins and stick them into the points where the
ribbons intersect on the pillow top. (see figure 4)

5. Turn the pillow on it’s side and pin the end of the wider ribbon in
the center of the side, using your straight pins. (see figure 5)

6. Wrap the ribbon around all four sides, concealing the fabric edges and
skinny ribbon tails. Pull it tightly as you go and keep the ribbon edges
lined up with the edges of the pillow. (see figure 5)

7. When you pass your starting point, fold under the ribbon tail and pin
it down using your corsage pins. (see figure 6)

8. Trim off any loose moss bits.

9. Cut a 12″ length of the skinnier ribbon and tie it to the corsage pin
in the center of the pillow. Attach your rings by tying a bow. (see
figure 7)

What it costs:
Styrofoam square $.90
Ribbon $3.00
Corsage Pins $2
Small bag of moss $1.80
Total = $7.70

Fashion Friday: Vera Wang

Aah the internet, giving me a front row seat to New York's fashion week! So many great designers with amazing new styles for Spring 2010!

Vera Wang's line was classic Vera: black and gray silks create elegant sheaths, and jackets. The hand sewn pieces add texture and dimension to her line. Way to go Vera, another stunning collection!

New York Fashion Week goes Green

A first for New York Fashion Week, The GreenShows Eco-Fashion Week is the only premiere fashion event exclusively committed to eco-friendly, ethically sound, fair-trade fashion in New York City. This two-day event featured a selection of eco-conscious fashion designers who have been given the opportunity, support and resources to show their Spring/Summer 2010 collection under one roof.

Fashion Fridays: Oh Betty Draper, You're Mad

Betty Draper's character in MAD MEN (played by actress, January Jones) makes for some great television! She's impeccably stylish, but what a hot mess, with a flawless exterior that masks a tortured interior. Most modern women find Betty's character totally unrecognizable today (her character is the one I least identify with, of course!), but you can't help but feel sympathy, frustration, and pity for this woman trapped in suburbia. We've come a long way, baby!

Mad Men Fashion: Peggy Olson Twist

Peggy Olson's (Elizabeth Moss) is a junior copywriter at Sterling Copper. Once a bit of an odd duck, Peggy's new found self confidence makes you want to shout "you go girl". Her own office with a window, smoking marijuana, my gosh what's next burning her bra? That's not till seasons 7, but I can't wait!

This week fashion inspiration is a farewell to the old Peggy. No more little girl with a ponytail, even though I have to admit I'll miss her sweater's a bit.
